Welcome to the Umr-Pvbmt Cirad/University website
Umr- Pvbmt [Plant Populations and Bio-aggressors in Tropical Ecosystems Joint Research Unit] was set up in 2003 through the merger of two University of Reunion Island host teams and four CIRAD (Centre for International Cooperation in Development-Oriented Agronomical Research) teams from four CIRAD Departments. From 2003 to 2009 its scientific activity was organized into four research areas and staff were divided into five teams. Umr-Pvbmt was confirmed as part of the current 2015-2020 five-year contract, under the joint supervision of the University of Reunion Island and Cirad. Inra (French National Agronomical Research Institute) was associated to Umr- PvbmtT as a USC (Contract Unit) in January 2016.
Umr-Pvbmt consists of three teams working on the following topics:
- Emerging pathogen genomics and epidemiology;
- Diversity and sustainable use of plant genetic resources in tropical environments;
- Ecological dynamics in island environments.
Umr-Pvbmt is located on Reunion Island, at the Plant Protection Centre (3P) in Saint-Pierre, where most permanent and non-permanent staff work. Part of the academic staff is still located at the Faculty of Science and Technology on Moufia Campus, where Biology undergraduate courses are taught. Umr- Pvbmt is responsible for the University of Reunion Island BEST-T (Biodiversity & Terrestrial Tropical Ecosystems) curriculum of the BEE (Biodiversity, Ecology, Evolution) Master programme.
